Puppyhood is considered the critical period for raising a happy, well-adjusted dog. Most new dog owners have heard about socialization but what does that really mean? This term is widely misunderstood and can often lead new pet parents to do more harm than good. We do want to expose our puppies to lots of new experiences, but we need to remember that our puppies are oh-so sensitive.

Within puppyhood, there are different stages and one of these is called the “fear period”. It is crucial that we are aware of all of these stages and what they look like so that we can properly socialize our puppies without causing lasting damage. Do not fret though! With a proper plan in place we can set our puppies and ourselves up for success!
